Make your own Secchi-disk

You can make a Secchi-disk easily by yourself. This is what you need:
  • About 10 meters of rope or cord
  • A 1-2- kg's plummet (e.g. a stone)
  • A round, white, waterproof disk of 30 cm's diameter (e.g. a bucket lid)

This is how you make a Secchi-disk:

  • Drill a hole to your disk.
  • Thread your rope or cord through the hole.
  • Attach your plummet on the other side of the disk and the rope or thread on the other.
  • Make a measuring scale by tying knots to your rope every 50 cm’s.
  • Start making visibility depth measurements.
